How to Use Plantain
- 1). Cut the top and bottom off of two unripe or semi-ripe plantains and make a slit down the length of the plantain peels. Remove the peels. The Congo Cookbook website states, "one plantain per serving."
- 2). Slice the plantain into thin pieces similar to potato chips.
- 3). Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a pot. Place the pot on the stove top and turn the heat to medium.
- 4). Put the plantain slices in the hot oil and fry for approximately two to three minutes or until the plantains are a golden color. Do not overcrowd the pot.
- 5). Scoop the fried plantains out of the oil with a slotted spoon. Dump the plantains on a plate lined with paper towel to soak up the grease. Sprinkle sea salt on the plantain chips before eating.
- 1). Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 2). Make an incision down the length of a ripe plantain peel. Pull the peel away from the ripe plantain flesh and discard the peel.
- 3). Wrap the plantain loosely in aluminum foil and place in the oven to bake at 400 degrees F. Cook for approximately 40 minutes, or when the plantain flesh is tender when poked with a fork. Remove from the oven.
- 4). Add butter and salt to the plantain to taste.
