Types of Fertility Drugs
- One of the most common fertility drugs affects the level of gonadotropin. This is a hormone that is released from the hypothalamus and helps the ovaries remain fertile. Menotropins are extracted from urine.
- Another form of drug that affects gonadotropin levls is known as recombinant gonadotropins. Using them entails inserting DNA coding into bacteria and then injecting it into a woman. This helps the ovaries work more efficiently.
- Estrogen is responsible for a substantial percentage of infertility in women. According to the American Medical Association, estrogen impairs the ovary's function. Drugs that inhibit its effects are the best way to combat this phenomenon.
- Follicle-stimulation hormone can be synthesized from the anterior pituitary gland. This drug helps regulate the growth and development of the reproductive organs within the female body.
- Although there has been no breakthrough into an exact drug to increase male sperm production, research into testosterone and human growth hormones has shown there is a limited increase in male fertility.
