How to Know If Frozen Chicken Is Bad
- 1). Take frozen chicken out of fridge and unwrap it.
- 2). Smell the chicken and check for foul or unpleasant odors. If the chicken smells badly, do not eat it. Unpleasant smells are an indication of spoiled chicken.
- 3). Thaw the chicken in the refrigerator for two hours to two days depending on the size and cut. Whole chickens can take days to thaw while cut up pieces may only take a couple of hours.
- 4). Touch the thawed chicken and check for stickiness or tackiness. If the chicken feels sticky or tacky, it has most likely spoiled and is unsafe for consumption.
- 5). Look for changes in color in the chicken. Fading or darkening is another sign that the chicken has gone bad.
