How to Season T-Bone Steaks
- 1). Mix together salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste along with any other seasonings you desire. You can include chili flakes, dried herbs or dried garlic or onion powder.
- 2). Lightly rub the steak with oil. You can use any oil that has a high smoke point. These include refined canola oil, extra virgin or extra light olive oil, grapeseed oil and sunflower oil. Choose an oil based on what you have at home and what flavor you wish to impart to your steak -- olive oil, for example, can leave your steak with a distinctive flavor that you might or might not enjoy. The oil will help the T-bone steak cook consistently and also will help keep the dried seasoning mix in place on the steak.
- 3). Sprinkle the T-bone steak with your mixed, dried seasonings, then rub the seasonings into the meat. Focus particularly on the areas beside the bone because it can be easy to miss these parts and leave them with less flavor than other parts of the steak.
- 4). Leave the T-bone steak for 10 to 15 minutes to allow it to absorb the oil and flavors from the seasoning mix, then cook it as normal. The best cooking options for T-bone steaks are broiling or pan broiling.
