How to Flip Hair With a Straightener
- 1). Wash and condition the hair with moisturizing shampoos and conditioners. This step is essential because the flat iron is damaging to the hair and dries the hair beyond what it naturally encounters. To counteract this damage, moisturizing products are essential to prevent unnecessary damage to the hair.
- 2). Brush the hair straight using a paddle brush. Blow dry the hair as flat as possible. If you have naturally curly hair, it is likely that you will have to straighten the hair before flipping. Straighten the hair starting from the crown in one inch sections.
- 3). Apply a styling mousse all over the hair, paying special attention to the very ends of the hair. Allow the hair to dry completely before trying to flip the hair. Brush again with the paddle brush to keep the hair smooth and pliable.
- 4). Place the flat iron near the top of the head. Work with one inch sections at a time. Slowly pull the hair down, then once you get about halfway down, start to pull the hair up and out slightly in the way that you want the hair to flip. Repeat for the entire head.
- 5). Place a small amount of styling gel into your fingers and rub your hands together. Carefully crimp the edges of the flipped hair with your fingers to freeze the hair into the desired flip style. Alternatively, you can use hair spray to spray the hair in place for a slightly less severe hairstyle.
