How to Knit a Mobius Scarf From the Middle
- 1). Tie a slipknot in the yarn and slide it onto the cord of the circular needles.
- 2). Hold the slipknot and right needle in your right hand and bend the circular knitting needles into a loop so the cord forms a circle between the two needles. Hold the working yarn taut above the needle in your left hand.
- 3). Bring the right needle forward and insert it into the loop formed by the cord. Then bring the needle up between the cord and the working yarn and then over the working yarn in a figure-eight fashion. Pull the working yarn down through the loop formed by the cord and return the right needle to its original position. You will now have a loop going over the right needle and through the loop formed by the cord of the circular needles.
- 4). Swing the right needle to the right and then under the working yarn to place another loop on the right needle.
- 5). Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have 100 loops on the right needle.
- 6). Bring the left needle around and up to the right needle, creating a double loop in the cord. Stretch the cast-on edge of the yarn to the point of the left needle. The working yarn should be at the point of the right needle, and the cast on loops should extend over both loops of the cord. The loops of the cord should not cross at any point in the loop, except where the right needle crosses over the cord near the end of the cast-on row. The crossover between the needle and the cord creates the half twist necessary to create the mobius.
- 7). Place a marker on the right needle to mark the end of the row.
- 8). Knit into the first stitch on the left needle, which is the slipknot. Knit into the middle of each subsequent stitch around until you reach the marker, which will be on the cord between your needles. The slip knot will be on the left needle.
- 9). Knit into the slipknot and in every subsequent stitch. Continue knitting each stitch for as many rounds as necessary until the mobius scarf reaches the desired width. End when you reach the end of a round, which happens when you reach the marker on the left needle.
