How to Fix Dry Nails
- 1). Clip broken nails or hangnails. Biting or chewing nails causes brittle and dry nails. Use nail clippers to remove hang nails. Do not clip the skin except by removing the cuticle.
- 2). Use hand lotion on hands after bathing. Hand creams moisturize the area around the nails. Use creams with skin softeners to decrease brittleness and enhance the skin around the nail beds.
- 3). Supplement your diet with biotin vitamins, which are found in whole food stores or vitamin shops. According to the University of Maryland, biotin and clear nail polish help improve nail quality including dry and brittle conditions.
- 4). Wear gloves when cleaning or using harsh chemicals. Cleaners such as bleach and ammonia irritate the skin and affect the nails. Gloves protect the skin and nails from adverse reactions.
