Stryker Hip Lawyer News: New Study Reveals Information About Metal Hips
A new study published online at BMJ Open has revealed information about metal hip implants that may cause more patients to seek the aid of a Stryker hip lawyer.
According to the study published March 12th, elevated blood metal ion concentrations alleged in Stryker hip lawsuits were associated with early hip failure secondary to metal debris and adverse tissue reactions. Additionally, patients with cobalt concentrations higher than 20 ‚µg/l were shown to lead to the development of metal staining of tissues and the development of osteolysis. Many patients alleging these side effects have filed claims with a Stryker hip lawyer.
Women included in the study were at a higher risk of experiencing complications from metal hip implants, as were patients who received devices involved in the DePuy ASR hip recall. This recall, issued in August 2010, affected 93,000 DePuy ASR metal-on-metal hip replacements. There are now approximately 10,000 DePuy ASR hip lawsuits pending in courts throughout the U.S.
These findings represent the "first evidence that blood metal ion tests can be used as a clinical indicator of the risk of early joint failure in asymptomatic patients," according to authors in this study.
This information may impact the rising litigation of Stryker hip lawsuits in the U.S. As of February 2013, it was revealed that 80 claims over the Rejuvenate modular-neck hip stem had been filed in New Jersey Superior Court.
That same month, a petition to consolidate federally-filed Stryker Rejuvenate lawsuits in the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota was filed by plaintiffs. Although Stryker voiced its support for the formation of a multidistrict litigation (MDL) at this location in a Brief the company filed in March, a location has not yet been determined.
The first Stryker hip lawsuit involving the company's ABG II hip stem was also filed in March by a plaintiff who alleges negligence and breach of express and implied warranties. Howmedica Osteonics Corp. (d/b/a Stryker Orthopaedics) was named the defendant in this case, which says the plaintiff experienced pain and discomfort as well as developed a pseudotumor as well as "significant fluid collection" around the hip prosthesis.
If you experienced complications after receiving the Stryker Rejuvenate or ABG II implant, you may want to consider calling a Stryker hip lawyer to file a claim against the manufacturer. Claims filed against Stryker Orthopaedics seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages incurred by your injuries.
