How to Weave Short Hair

    • 1). Wash and condition the natural hair and use a blow dryer to dry it thoroughly.

    • 2). Separate a small section of hair around the edges and crown of the head and use hair clips or a ponytail holder to pin the hair in place away from the rest of the hair. These sections of hair will be used to cover the weave for a more natural appearance.

    • 3). Braid the remaining hair into flat and narrow cornrows using synthetic or human hair braid extensions. Using braid extensions to create cornrows on short hair provides a strong base for the weave to be sewn to and also helps the braids look neater and last longer. Secure the ends of the braids by sewing them to the bottom of the cornrows using a curved hair-sewing needle and hair-sewing thread.

    • 4). Sew a weft of synthetic or human hair-weave extensions onto each cornrow using the curved hair-sewing needle and color coordinated hair-sewing thread. Wefts, sometimes called tracks, are strands of hair sewn together on a long strip. For best results, start at the back of the head and work forward; making sure to go over the weft at least twice with the needle and thread for a stronger hold.

    • 5). Once the weft is tightly secured to the cornrows, cut off the leftover part of the weft using a pair of scissors. This is done to ensure that the wefts are properly cut to size.

    • 6). Repeat steps 4 and 5 until weave extensions have been applied to the whole head.

    • 7). Take down the sections of hair around the edges and crown that was pinned out of the way. Gently comb and brush the sections of hair over the weave to cover it.

    • 8). Apply a styling product such as hair spray or a styling cream to the natural hair to further blend it into the weave. Trim, cut or style the weave as desired.
