Exercise Success - A Process Or an Outcome?

103 52
"Success is a continuing thing.
It is growth and development.
It is achieving one thing and using that as a stepping stone to achieve something else.
" ~ John Maxwell Maxwell defines success in life as a process and not an outcome.
When you look at the process of describing success in your life it has many similarities to the way you should approach exercise.
Exercise should be viewed as a journey taken one step at a time.
We go through ups and downs, but it is through these things that we become stronger and better equipped to persevere in both life and with exercise.
Try to think of your "downs" as mileage markers - with every one you know you're moving forward.
You move forward because you learn something that didn't work.
Knowing this you are able to avoid it the next time.
With each exercise session you are growing to reach your physical potential.
"As I see it, every day you do one of two things - build health or produce disease in yourself.
" - Adelle Davis.
I like this quote because it reminds us that every day and every workout, or lack thereof, makes a difference.
Your daily progress and accomplishments create a feeling of success which breeds growth and positive change.
Avoid focusing on "the destination," such as losing weight for a wedding or getting in shape to look good for a class reunion.
You will find more success in your exercise program if you keep your focus on the day-to-day accomplishments you make.
An accomplishment may be as simple as increasing the time spent on your daily walk/jog by five minutes.
These small accomplishments give you the motivation to keep going.
Your fitness program should be something you practice day by day for a lifetime.
A journey.
The part of fitness that most people overlook is the impact it can have on their entire life and not just the physical.
As you move along in your fitness journey, you develop discipline, form habits and create change in your life that will have a positive impact on your family, friends and personal life.
Start your journey today.
