Teeth are an extremely important part of a person's health, life, and overall well-being. We need teeth in order to obtain the nourishment we need in order to survive. Teeth are necessary for the grinding, cutting, and tearing of our food. Our teeth also break down our food into small pieces, in order to be easily swallowed and so our body can digest it. Once digested, our body can use the food correctly for our needed body growth. Teeth define the way each person talks and the way they pronounce their words. Teeth also define the shape and appearance of a person's face too.

Enamel, which is the outer section of teeth, is the hardest part of teeth. The second section, called dentin is located inside this enamel. The dentin consists of tubes that are hollow, which consist of blood vessels that keep teeth alive, nerves that provide feeling of pain and sensation, and flesh. If you feel pain, this is a warning of something being wrong with your teeth. For instance, an opening in the dentin will allow germs and cold substances inside, which will cause tooth decay. Tooth decay is also known as a cavity. Each person's teeth contains another section called roots which keeps our teeth anchored in our mouth.

Each person will have two different sets of teeth during their lifetime. The first set is called baby teeth, which consists of twenty teeth. The second set is called permanent teeth, which consists of thirty two teeth. At birth, babies are born with no teeth, and they start growing their baby teeth at about 6 months old. They will grow all 20 baby teeth usually by the age of 2 , and begin losing these baby teeth between the ages of 5 and 6 years old.

Our teeth have different names and uses. Incisors are our front teeth. They contain dull knife blade like edges that we use to cut up our food. Cuspids, also known as canines, are made with a long sharp point with which we tear our food. Bicuspids

Are made with two sharp points with which we grind our food. Molars, sometimes called grinding teeth, are our largest teeth, and we use them for grinding and chewing our food. Our teeth also come in three general shapes which are oval, square, and triangle.
