Proper Way to Install Bonded Hair Extensions

    Purchase Supplies

    • Purchase wefted human hair extensions, a rat-tailed comb and bonding glue at a beauty supply store. Bonding glue comes in several colors, so buy the shade closest to the extension color.

    Prepare Your Hair

    • Before you can bond the extensions, your hair must be completely clean. Wash, de-tangle and dry your hair thoroughly. Use the rat-tailed comb to part your hair down the middle, starting at the front of your scalp and ending at the crown of your head. Next, part your hair into two sections by parting your hair horizontally from ear to ear across the back of your head. Gather the top section of hair and secure it tightly with a hair tie.

Bonding the Extensions on the Back of Your Head

    • Lay the extensions flat and measure a section equivalent to the distance of the back of your head from ear to ear. Cut this section through the weft using scissors. Apply a thin line of bonding glue across the fabric weft at the extensions. Line this section up with the roots of the lower section of hair on the back of your head from ear to ear.

Bonding the Extensions on the Sides of Your Head

    • Measure out two sections on the right side of your head from the front of your scalp back to the top of your right ear. Secure the top section the same way you secured the back. Repeat this process on the left side of your head. Lay the extensions flat and measure a section of the weft that is equivalent in length to the distance between the front of your scalp and your ear. Cut the weft of the extension using scissors. Apply a thin layer of bonding glue to the fabric of the weft, and line it up with the roots of the lower layer of hair. Gently press the extensions onto the roots of your natural hair, and smooth them out evenly.

    Finishing the Process

    • Use a blow dryer to seal the extensions to your natural hair. Turn on the blow dryer to low heat and aim it toward the newly bonded extensions for 10-20 seconds. Remove the hair ties from the top layers of hair and gently brush them out, careful to avoid hitting the fabric wefts.
