Look Slim in Photos - Discover the Supermodel Secret to Get the Most Flattering Pose
Do you thrive in the centre of attention? Well for me, the limelight has never been a place that I have loved to be in so when I was preparing for my wedding day, I dreaded the prospect of being photographed so many times! I was an awkward subject but I so desperately wanted some good photos of my husband and I together.
In the months leading up to the big day, a good friend was also making her wedding preparations and I happened to go with her to a dress fitting at the designer's studio.
It was an impressive place, the walls covered with hundreds of magazine covers of models wearing her designs.
The models all looked stunning in the dresses, and I commented on this but added that "mere mortals" (meaning us!) just can't look as good.
It was then that she shared the secret with us- the same secret that photographers use all the time with models to get the most flattering pose.
Read on to learn it for yourself.
Practice with a mirror to begin with.
Stand facing a mirror with your feet shoulder width apart.
Now slide your right foot back so that it's behind the front foot, at an angle like a long letter "T".
Now put all the weight on the back foot.
This should straighten your back leg and allow your front leg to bend slightly at the knee because there's very little weight on it.
It feels a bit like your pushing your pelvis forwards slightly.
Stand tall on your back leg and try to keep your shoulders back and loose.
Keep your face and shoulders facing the camera/mirror and Voila! Can you see what this has done? Your silhouette is dramatically slimmer! You may have to practice this a few times before it comes naturally, I also advise you to practice it with a camera as well: have a friend take some photos of you standing the way you normally would, and then with your feet in the "T" position and see the difference for yourself.
This advice is a little nuggets of gold that carried me though my wedding day and allowed me to relax because I was confident I would get the most flattering photos possible.
I still continue to use this technique in all my photos these days because, after all, who doesn't want to look their best?
