Healthy Hydration for Your Skin Wrinkles
- You can improve the appearance of your skin by drinking plenty of water. This will hydrate your wrinkles from the inside out. When you are properly hydrated, your body is healthier and your skin takes on a dewy appearance. It is often suggested that you drink eight glasses of water each day. That is not difficult to do if you switch water for the other beverages you now consume. Drinking soft drinks or fruit juice does not hydrate your body as well as drinking plain water.
- If the air in your home is dry because of air conditioning or indoor heating, consider using a humidifier or vaporizer in your room at night while you sleep. The mist of water released by these devices will help increase the humidity in your room, which might slow down the drying of your skin. Think about installing a shower filter to remove the chlorine from your water. Chlorine can have a drying effect on your skin. By using a water filter, you can wash your face and body with water that is purer and less drying. It is also best to avoid long, hot showers and use cooler water, which is less drying.
- You can use skin-care products that penetrate your skin and plump up your wrinkles. To do this, look for products that have 10 percent alpha hydroxy acid or glycolic acid. Many over-the-counter products do not contain enough acid to deeply penetrate the skin. The best products are usually obtained from your dermatologist or esthetician.
Products that are oil based such as Vaseline help to lock in moisture. Vaseline is best applied right after you finish showering and your skin is still wet. Just apply a small amount of Vaseline, and rub it in well to keep moisture from evaporating. You can use Vaseline for younger looking hands as well. Before bed, coat your hands with a fine layer of Vaseline, put on a pair of cotton gloves and awake to smoother, hydrated skin on your hands.
