Trying to Lose Weight For the Holidays? Keep These Tips in Mind
The holidays are just around the corner, and if you're planning to lose weight -- either so you could enjoy more holiday fare, or if you're going to vacation in some warmer clime's beaches -- it can be pretty tricky.
After all, it almost always isn't healthy to try to lose a lot of weight in a short period of time.
But with a few nifty tips and some planning ahead, anyone can pull it off.
First of all, decide how much weight you want to lose.
Five pounds? Ten? Twenty? Whatever your target, keep in mind that anyone can fairly easily shed one pound per week, but it takes quite a bit of effort to lose two pounds per week.
If that vacation is two months away, for instance, a realistic goal is losing ten pounds.
Secondly, decide how you're going to lose that weight.
The easiest way to do this is by knowing how many calories you'll need to cut each day.
If you gained weight over the past month, multiply the number of pounds by 125.
Then take your target weight loss and multiply it by 3500 -- and divide that by the number of days in your time frame.
Take the two figures, add them together, and that's the number of calories you'll need to cut every single day to reach your goal.
Let's say you gained 2 pounds from last month, and you plan to lose 10 pounds in the next two months (60 days).
#1 - Multiply number of pounds gained last month by 125.
That's 2 x 125 = 250.
#2 - Multiply your target weight loss by 3500.
That's 10 x 3,500 = 35,000.
#3 - Divide the resulting figure by the number of days.
That's 35,000 / 60 = 583.
33, say 600.
#4 - Add the two figures.
That's 250 + 600 = 850.
That means you'll need to cut 850 calories a day for the next two months to lose 10 pounds.
It may sound nearly impossible to do, but you can start with simple diet changes.
Skipping one can of soda per day can cut 150 calories, and eating fruit instead of cookies can cut even more.
You can also exercise everyday -- an hour's worth of brisk walking alone will burn 300 calories.
Crunch the numbers and get to work! Holiday cheers to your success.
